The elven archer known to humans first as Craig Pain and later as Link had come from the Vesve forest, where he was a guard in the princess’s escort. He was a trusty shot with the bow and earned the favor of the elven lords, until he misfired with one of his compliments on the princess’s beauty. One day she was speaking to him of her feeling of boredom with the royal life and how she longed for adventure, so he began contemplating what this implied. She was overheard murmuring, “I need a new guy with…” and she paused, “a pointy stick to make things interesting.” So he came in one night, “Hey baby, pointy-stick man is going to blow your mind.” As the elven beauty recoiled from his advance, he could only say, “But my lady, you’re not a real woman until you’ve been used at least once,” and then he darted out of the forest with all the speed of a flashing arrow, lucky to escape.

From there he began associating with humans, often disguising himself as one, seeking to escape his shameful past with bravado and intrigue. On his hands were the words tattooed, “new guy,” and “pointy-stick man.” Several of the unintelligent barmaids had the thought that this could mean great things, and he became a success in more ways than one. Eventually growing bored with the petty sights of mercenary jobs, he decided to strike out on his own. Thus he encountered a group of adventurers involved in the plot of the Stonehands, and eagerly joined their company.

He might not have always made his point, but I guess the elven princess got her justice when his life force was drained by wraiths in the dark dungeons, where there was no place to run from his fate. The wraiths had fully punished the lad, when he awoke to the chanting of a dark-clad priest and was restored to life. He had completely forgotten his past and was told that he was to be a link between the priests and a group of adventurers who were threatening valuable and necessary objectives. Reborn and recast as Link, he went forth until he too was defeated, but this time in a more permanent way, as the dark priests have not yet found a use for his corpse that was slaughtered in battle by a hail of arrows.
